　　When it is a free, democratic culture like this, the“counterculture”
in the Bible seems pale and weak. Most people do not want to follow those
rules and be a Jesus-freak in other people’s eyes. The president still
holds a Bible,“but he does not do Biblical things anymore, because majority
doesn ’t want that.” Every human duty implies a corresponding liberty
needed to fulfill that duty. And it is the duty of rulers to protect those
liberties.” (Neff 42)

　　On the other hand, with the free society and the new ideas coming
in, people begin to think about the things they always believed in and
people find things in the Bible irrational and inconvincible. John Bowker
has a different view in his world religions. He thinks that religions
are the earliest protective system that enable people to have children
and to raise them up. We can see how Christianity works about against
abortion in this country; it carries an old, primary system to an advanced
and civilized world. That annoys most of the crowds. When America is having
election, people look at whether the President supports the abortion or
not because people do not want to be restrained by an old system that
“humans could devise to ensure survival” (Comings 526).

　　As Christianity is not for this civilized world, people now find things
in Bible confusing. “‘How could every species on earth fit into a single
boat? How did the animals get fed —and who cleaned up after them? How
could Noah live to be 950 years old? God could make anything happen, I
thought, but this story had the smell of a man-made fable, not his inerrant
word. The Bible is filled with these kinds of tales …. ’” (Lobdell
248)

　　Rene Descartes says:“‘If you would be a real seeker after truth,
it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible,
all things’” (Lobdell 0)

　　In the ancient time, people doubt about the conventional system, and
created Christianity, so Christianity was an advanced thinking back to
that time. But now, it is decaying. That is when America is globalizing,
