　　The last thing I want to share with you tonight is in regards to Gogo’
s life in China. I have learned a lot about her culture this term. Gogo
explained how competitive school was in China. She told us about the typical
long school day-getting up and going to school and then returning late
in the evening only to have dinner and study more.

　　One day at ICA while reading A Separate Peace, we were discussing
competition. Gogo explained that in China students were ranked by their
academic performances. This would be similar to a class ranking at ICA.
However, there were many differences with this ranking system. First,
it was a visible list well-known by the parents, teachers and students.
Second, students were often asked who they wanted to pass on the list.
Students would say a name and then thrive to beat the person they set
out to pass. The pressure must have been intense.

　　Gogo, as you know, things are different here, and on-behalf of ICA
and all of the people who have been blessed to know your joyful and thoughtful
soul, you are on the top rung here, #1 in this ranking- now and forever.

　　一个学生应当去倾慕他的老师，但是对于我而言，是我需要仰慕我的学生的
智慧。今晚，我要在这里将这种荣誉授予这位年轻的女士。

　　当我想到Gogo Wang 的时候，我想到快乐。不论是穿着男士西服、贴着小胡
子模仿戏剧人物，还是创办第一份学校报纸，或者是计划一个溜冰生日聚会， Gogo
发散着快乐。

　　当我们在“Meals from the Heartland（美国中部一个给海地捐食品的项目）”
做完义工后，一些高三学生来到我家吃中餐。一群女孩坐在餐桌旁边，我也加入
了她们。我不知道是不是我的出现导致了大家的静默，但是Gogo却准备好了来活
跃气氛。她说：“咱们一个人说一句话，组成一个好玩的故事吧。”于是，这些
女孩和我8 岁大的儿子创造了一个荒谬的小故事，令每个人哈哈大笑。这就是Gogo
身边特有的氛围——快乐的氛围。

　　Gogo身上还有一点特质令我钦佩，那就是一个伟大的思想者的特质。今年冬
天，当我在上完课后，我去Grand View大学，Gogo去Central Academy ，我经常
会送她到车站。在这些短暂的时段中我们经常有许多有意义的对话，其中有一次
给我留下了特别深刻的印象。当时我们在学习诗歌，而她在Central 也在学习诗
